I am an AVIS Preferred customer and we went to the AVIS Bogota uptown office. BIG MISTAKE. The lady behind the counter should be fired as she gives AVIS a very bad name. When we arrived a German couple were hiring a car. It took this incapable person behind the counter more than an hour to do this simple transaction. The Germans were fuming. Not once did she apologize to us for the long time it was taking or give us any kind of indication when she would be done. Eventually the poor German couple had their vehicle and we were next. We wanted to reserve a vehicle for the next week. To our utter amazement she told us that we should reserve on the website. We had been there for an hour waiting for this idiot to complete a transaction that takes 10 - 15 minutes elsewhere in the world and now she basically told us she can't help. We stormed out the office and to our delight 2 doors further was the Hertz. We were done in 10 minutes there. NEVER, IF YOU VALUE YOUR SANITY go to AVIS Bogota office. You will regret it.

We had a great experience renting a car here. I reserved the car online before arriving. When we got there they had our reservation. Within about 30 minutes we were in the car and ready to go. Everyone was very professional and easy to deal with. The car itself was great. It was a late model Renault sedan. It was a great car. It drove well. It was clean. We had no problems with the car at all. I bought all of the insurance because the insurance is inexpensive and it can't hurt to have the extra coverage.
Do not rent from AVIS at the Bogota El Dorado Airport in Colombia We had made car/suv reservation one month in advance. When we arrived at the airport the kiosk was closed. My husband walked to the garage to find the worker. When he finally found her she told him that she gave away our rental car to someone else. She stated, because we were late. my husband told her that he was trying to contact her that we were on our way and was held up in traffic. I told her that we had been calling her kiosk directly for one hour and there was no answer and was put on hold for long periods of time and then we would call back again and was put on hold again. No one ever picked up the phone . We were in a taxi on the way to the airport to pick up our suv Hyundai Santa Fe or similar for a family trip. Warning they don't care to admit any fault. We reserved this rental car through HOTWIRE and AVIS. I called both companies and they did nothing to compensate us for our lost rental vehicle or the taxi fares to and from the airport. Once we arrived at the airport to get back to our hotel we had to catch another taxi. That line was super long 1 1/2 hour wait. I will never book from HOTWIRE NOR AVIS AGAIN.
I don’t remember having such a bad customer service experience in my life. I went with my father to rent two cars to travel around Colombia. The problems with this people were The office was closed at our arrival, because the person that was supposed to open the store came late The person at the counter was coughing over us during the transaction The transaction of picking up the car took 90 minutes, and we were the only ones at the place The car received was different from the car reserved, according to them a Toyota Corolla is the same as a Nissan Versa, so we paid an upgrade to receive a decent car They deliver a car with details and at the time of the return ask if you did it, because they do not have a system to take note of the details in the car I don’t know if it is usual in Colombia, but you are supposed to clean the car before delivery, not talking about trashing the car, dirt from driving in the rain is supposed to be cleaned before delivery Even when I called twice before picking up the car, nobody said anything about not being able pick up the car with my American driver license At the time of return they said that the car was not full of gas, so I had to go to the gas station to fill the car with 0.1 gallons, probably the gas I used from filling up the tank 10 blocks away from the car return place. They tried to charge of 16k pesos for 0.1 gallons missing They do not accept American Express for the deposit And difficult to describe the attitude of the lady that took care of us when we picked up the car, she was like the punisher
Had no problems with the pickup. Rented the car through the AVIS website, and picked it up at the airport fairly seamlessly. The car was clean and drove great. On the return, we had trouble giving it back; there was no one at the place and we had to argue with the parking guard in Spanish, telling him that someone from AVIS was supposed to be coming... didn’t miss a flight, but was annoying.
Very nice people, clean car. It was a bit hard to find AVIS in the terminal. They also spoke understandable english which is not too common in Colombia. If you speak spanish it doesn't hurt! ;)
Avoid this AVIS at all costs!!!! I have dealt with this Avis on two occasions and BOTH were the worst experience I ever had with any travel/car rental. First, if you don't their insurance they charge you an extra 1,000 USD to be returned afterwards. Every other time I have rented a car, Colombia included, it was a few hundred reserved on your credit card. The first time I rented, and tried to return the car they said it was dirty and either I pay the guy who takes the car back 100,000 COP or they would keep the USD deposit. The second time I rented there, they did not actually have a car for me to rent. I was supposed to pick it up in the parking lot but no one was there to assis . After waiting for 15 minutes, in the rain, with my pregnant fiance, I returned to the counter. The gentleman at the counter said some would help but there was no one. I ended up cancelling my rental. I have rented from several Localizas around Colombia and never had an issue. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS AVIS Follow up: Called Avis customer support. Spoke with Albert, 95931. All he said was he understands my frustrations over and over and offered a free day rental in Canada - where I don't need to rent a car. Nothing to remediate my situation in Colombia. It was a further waste of my time. I will NEVER rent from any Avis again.
They need to post a map showing how to get to their locations by the airport. Very hard to find unless you know exactly where it is. Otherwise customer service was great.
