I wish there were more stars to give. Small, cozy, well decorated place, a little off the beaten path, so quiet and serene. Well-meaning wait staff, maybe a little inexperienced, but always smiling and giving their best. . The food is fantastic. The first time I went I really liked it, so I decided to return with my family and experience more dishes (we share). None of the dishes disappointed. Well executed, seasoned just right for us and true to the cooking from the region. Service was a little slow because the place was full. We didn't mind because staff was aware and apologetic, so they do care. I went back a third time with friends and had the posta samaria. I am not exaggerating, it was just as mama Berta made when I was a little kid. The wine selection is a little limited, but there will be something to your taste, and you should not go to this restaurant for the wine. You should go to get a true taste of the Santa Marta cooking without any of the "elevated" trend - which does have a place in my heart. I will be returning to Josefina every chance I get and if you are still with me, then my final advice on the place is do not miss it.

Santa Marta is a beautiful place, and Josefina is a pearl jewel in its crown. Manuel and Carlos, the owners welcomed us with open arms, they served incredibly delicious, traditional Colombian recipies which had been passed down through generations, and regailed us with stories of how those recipies came to be. I 100% recommended Josefina, whether you are a local, or just visiting Santa Marta for a period of time.
The best lunch of our entire trip - we would have went back for dinner if we had time
I loved my meal and experience here. Andrés took the time to explain the menu and helped me select items that were unique to this region of Colombia. The food was full of flavor and the service was top notch. I also met the owner Manuel and learned more about how he uses his experience in culinary school to match with the traditions he remembers from his grandma's kitchen. Just go and enjoy; you'll be happy you did.
Entrees were great! Main dish Jumbalaya Rice was ok! I've taste better ! Need to change location to the Historic District! I'm sure it would be much better! The concept of local Samarian flavors is a great idea!
