Villa de Leyva, Colombia

Pretty amazing and there was absolutely no one there but me and my friends due to the decrease in tourism during these Covid times. Everyone who works there is pleasant and helpful. Reasonably priced souvenirs too.

My son is in love with dinosaurs and very curious to know everything about them. This is a very important museum that contains a significant amount of fossil pieces from about 10 to 15 million years ago, that tell the story of this Region in Colombia. As villa de leyva was all covered in sea water, the region contains millions of fossil features that evidence the existence of some aquatic ancient species. Really interesting and full of magic. almost every stone cross passed throughthis little town, is a potential fossil that tells a story.
About 5-6km from Villa de Leyva, we cycled, you just need to climb over a hill. Its a small museum, apart from the big fossil there is not that much to see. The signs are in Spanish and English. Good for about 30min visit. There’s another little fossil museum on the main road, it’s a pity they don’t offer a combination-ticket to view both
Good experience to learn
Definitely worth going... The most intact and complete chronosaurus in the world
Great experience and support to the comunity museums!
A beautiful experience! Most Colombians (like me) don't know that somehow dinosaurs once lived in the seas that covered our continents. They explain the story of the fossil and everything that came with it. Sadly, right now they're undergoing repairs to protect the main piece, and should have it ready by August 2019. Very cheap and very interesting!
Amazing this place and its community ️
