The story says that when Cali was a small ville, an opera company declined the invitation to perform because there wasn't any suitable stage. The pride of the Caleños was hurt so they set the first stone of their new theatre in 1918 and inaugurated it in 1927. Later it was renamed to honor one of the most important dramaturgists of Colombia: Enrique Buenaventura
