BWELLMED decided to establish its medical cannabis operation in Colombia, South America, due to the strong and thorough regulatory framework for medical cannabis currently in place, the ideal climatological conditions, and the existing skill sets many locals possess with respect to cannabis cultivation. Cannabis cultivation in Colombia has the potential of having a lesser environmental impact, in contrast to other countries where indoor operations are a necessity. This also leads to lower operational costs. BWELLMED, as a company founded by clinicians, understands the importance of bringing to market cannabinoid medicine that is reliable, highly standardized and of the best purity and quality. As such, we are partnering with academic institutions – both universities and tertiary care hospitals- around the country to undertake rigorous clinical research, as well as other higher education institutions to perform laboratory research. We have applied to become a licensed Colombian producer – to grow hemp and cannabis for medical purposes, extract high-grade hemp and cannabis oil, and manufacture, distribute and export cannabis-based medically focused products. We will be building an innovative product development facility with FDA/EPA/CGMP quality standards and will partner to contribute to the economic development of local communities through cooperative farming and employment.
